Teaching Experience

Eugene currently holds a private studio based in Iowa City. Before relocating to Iowa, Eugene previously taught in Texas and North Carolina, where he taught marching band, middle and high school-aged students.

Eugene graduated from The University of Texas at Austin with a Bachelor of Music in Music Education. During his time at UT-Austin, he took pedagogy courses in woodwind, brass, and percussion pedagogy.

Throughout his time in Austin, Eugene taught masterclasses and lessons in the greater Austin area and served as a region band audition adjudicator for nearby middle schools and high schools. Eugene was a student teacher at Stephen F. Austin High School and O. Henry Middle School in Austin, Texas. He had a great variety of experiences from teaching beginning woodwinds and brass to rehearsing concert and jazz bands.

Eugene completed his Master of Music in Saxophone Performance from University of North Carolina School of the Arts studying with Dr. Robert Young, and serving as the Saxophone Teaching Assistant, Woodwind Area Assistant and Jazz Ensemble Manager. During his time in North Carolina, Eugene also taught with a music educational outreach program called ArtistCorps, teaching music to middle school, preschool and charter schools in the Winston-Salem area. Along with ArtistCorps, Eugene also maintained an active studio consisting of beginner and intermediate clarinet and saxophone students.

While teaching, Eugene creates goals and designs lessons that are tailored to each student’s individual skill level and goals. Eugene believes that music provides skills that are universal to a student’s well-being.
